What's in a Name?
Sermon Series: Ten Words for Living
Pastor Don Petker
Questions:
- Proverbs 22:1 tells us that ‘a good name is better than great riches.’ In what ways might this be true?
- Jesus’ teaching on the Lord’s prayer includes the line ‘hallowed be your name’ or ‘Let your name be held holy.’ What is it about God’s name that he is so intent on us honouring?
- We often limit this commandment to profanity. Why does our world have this predilection to using God’s name profanely?
- There is a far greater danger that we use God’s name flippantly or frivolously. How do we do this unintentionally? How do we slip into this in our worship?
- As with the other commandments, the third commandment is ultimately about how we live. In what ways do our lifestyles bring dishonour to God’s name (or Christ’s name)?
