"Fishing Frustrations"
Sermon Series: Walking with Jesus
Pastor Don Petker
This is a powerful story of restoration. Peter had failed his Master completely, but Jesus kindly and gently reminds Peter, and us, that:
- He knows our name.
- He knows our failures.
- He knows our potential.
Questions:
- Peter, in his despair, decides to go back to fishing. What is it about failure that makes us want to give up?
- Jesus reminds Peter of who he had been before he met his Lord. In what ways does failure confuse our identity in Christ?
- Failure is inevitable and the evil one loves to use our failures against us. What does Jesus do with our failures?
- Jesus reminds Peter of his potential if only he will focus on his Lord. Imagine that you are sitting across the charcoal fire with Jesus. How would Jesus address your potential?
- It has been said the “justice is getting what we deserve, mercy is not getting what we deserve, and grace is getting that which we don’t deserve.” Satan loves to take our focus away from grace. How can we learn to embrace grace, live in its power, and extend it to our sphere of influence
